$1.2 Million Special Funding Opportunity

Updated: Apr 29

We are excited to announce a special funding opportunity for projects that directly benefit disadvantaged communities in the Merced Subbasin. This targeted solicitation follows the recent project review process and addresses a critical need identified by our Project Selection Committees: ensuring the Merced MLRP engages both landowners and residents to develop projects that create direct, tangible, and meaningful community benefits.

Why This Special Opportunity?

Following our initial RFP review process, we identified the need for projects that provide direct, tangible benefits to disadvantaged communities. To address this crucial program requirement, we've reserved $1.2 million specifically for projects that support groundwater sustainability while providing meaningful community benefits. Please click here for more information on the CA Department of Conservation's definition of meaningful community benefits.

What We're Looking For

  • Provide direct, tangible, and meaningful benefits to disadvantaged communities

  • When possible, are co-created with relevant communities

  • Be fully implemented by March 30, 2027

Priority Community Benefit Project Types:

  • Drinking water supply and security improvements

  • Green spaces, recreation areas, or community assets

  • Economic and workforce development opportunities

  • Environmental hazard reduction (air quality, flood risk, etc.)

Eligible applicants include:

  • Landowners

  • Public agencies

  • Nonprofit organizations

  • California Native American Tribes

  • Groundwater Sustainability Agencies
